Tarot as Holy Communion

I experience tarot as holy communion with Spirit. Tarot is one of many languages that Spirit speaks to help guide us back into compassion for ourselves and helps orient us toward our unique path. I see myself as a channeler and as a studied interpreter of the tarot. Cloister Mysticism cultivates a tarot practice rooted in Lindsay Mack’s articulation of “Soul Tarot”—an exploration of tarot through “an inclusive, soul-centered, trauma informed perspective.” I offer readings geared toward self-empowerment and healing that is grounded in the illumination of the present moment.

When we come to the deck, we ask Spirit for insight on how to best meet present challenges so that we may step up and shine in our fullest light. In humility, we ask for guidance in the work at hand and for wisdom that will help us act in surrender to our higher purpose. We seek appreciation for our fiercely individual path to service.

Lectio Divina

Reading tarot is a communion that, for me, as a sensitive empath, requires solitary space for thoughtful study. Rather than offering live readings, I cloister when I converse with your cards. I would describe my reading style as being akin to the monastic tradition of “lectio divina”—a mode of reading that savors the text at hand and places the reader as a bridge between the beauty of the present text and the divine message it holds. It’s a concentrated practice in which I take notes, read the syntax of your cards, and remain attentive to words from Spirit. This is not to say that tarot is not readily available to those who need it, or to insinuate that a meditative state is required to read tarot—the truth is the contrary! Rather, I offer this context to provide insight into my practice and to articulate what you can expect from a scheduled reading with me.

Tarot Offerings

Individual Readings

When making an appointment for an Individual Reading, we will discuss your intentions in seeking guidance from the tarot and what is coming up for you in the present moment; this will help us focus the questions I will bring to the deck on your behalf. Before our appointment, I will pull your cards, read & take notes. These notes, often hand-written, will the basis of our discussion around your cards and you will be provided a copy of them for you to keep so that you may refer back to them if you feel called to do so.

Presently, I offer donation based 3-card & 6-card readings:

  • 15-20min for a 3-card reading

  • 45min-1hr for a 6-card reading

    • Please note that donations are optional. If you find yourself experiencing financial hardship and are unable to make a donation, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Collaborative Readings

Collaborative Readings are for those who are exploring their own relationship with the tarot and would like to invite another voice into this conversation. For a Collaborative Reading, you can either choose your own spread or ask that I create one for you. You will pull your cards with your own deck and then share them with me. We will each conduct our own separate readings and then meet to “exchange notes”—discuss our impressions and, hopefully, deepen and enlarge our interpretive insights. Because Collaborative Readings are based in a dialog of interpretive exchange, these appointments are more time and labor intensive; I have found them to be an enriching and empowering experience for both readers.

Presently, I offer donation based 3-card & 6-card readings:

  • 20-30 min for a 3-card Collaborative Reading

  • 1-1.5hr for a 6-card Collaborative Reading

    • Please note that donations are optional. If you find yourself experiencing financial hardship and are unable to make a donation, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
